Urgent signs and symptoms you need a filling
For many patients, we’ve seen how ignoring dental cavities has led to more expensive tooth repairs and restorations, where prosthetics like dental crowns are needed to replace the tooth entirely. Protect your teeth and prevent further problems by acting fast if you notice any of these problems.
- You experience tooth pain when biting down
- You experience sensitivity when drinking or eating
- There are visible holes in the teeth
- You notice black staining on the surface of your tooth
Not sure you need a filling? We don’t expect you to know, but if you’re in pain or you feel something is not right, it’s best to start with a check-up instead with one of our incredible general dentists in Central London, who can examine the function and health of your smile and advise on the best next steps. New patient check-ups are charged at £155.

White fillings only
Here at Cap City Dental, we use natural-looking, durable white quartz composite fillings only, as opposed to offering silver-mercy amalgam fillings.
With amalgam metal fillings becoming a filling of the past, our practice has adopted a holistic approach that provides mercury-free dentistry for patients in and around London.
If you have a metal filling, we offer safe amalgam removal and adopt special tools and processes that ensure minimal mercury release.
We can then offer you a tooth-coloured filling for £95, preferred for how it blends naturally into your smile. It’s also not plugged into the cavity, which is commonplace for metal fillings, but instead is bonded to the tooth to stay firmly in place.
The cost of white fillings
The tooth filling cost will depend entirely on how large the cavity is and the complexity of the restoration. For example, small fillings usually cost £95 with a white composite filling, but larger cavities can cost up to £345.
How to avoid dental fillings
- Patients can prevent tooth decay at home by:
- Maintaining a high standard of oral health
- Brushing and flossing twice a day
- Changing your toothbrush (or head) every three months
- Avoiding sugary and acidic foods and drinks
- Undergo regular dental check-ups and hygiene treatments
